While touring
Paris today we stopped at the
Eiffel Tower and ran into Joe Namath. He appeared to be waiting for someone. Maureen, if you are reading this, he said to say hi!
Today we did a pretty full city tour. It confirmed in my mind that Mark and I could never do Amazing Race. After searching for the stairs to get to the Arc De Triomphe we realized they had been right in front of us all along. We can’t read the small print on the maps and Mark has to stop at every bakery we pass (I must say, the smell coming out of these places are amazing).
Paris is a busy and exciting place. We are finding the people to be nice and friendly (except for the guy at the front desk at our hotel) and are enjoying people watching. I really appreciate how much the French enjoy doing things with family and friends….very social. I can understand why all the protests and strikes are going on over changing the retirement age from 60 to 62.
Dinner was at Les Papilles, a small place in the Latin Quarter where there is a surprise set four course menu that changes daily. Mark actually ate cauliflower soup. We had traditional French food and wine which made for a great dinner………..thank you for treating us Maureen!
Here in Paris we have been affected by the strike but were relieved to hear that our train reservations for tomorrow are back on. So, off to Bordeaux in the morning.....
Ok, my 15 minute comment disappearsd. Before I rewrite it, let's see if it posted. I'll write again today if it doesn't appear.
ReplyDeleteGrrrr. Mark, don't say that about me!
Ok, my initial blog is lost in space so looks like I'll have to try to reconstruct it. Basically, as I told you earlier, I really enjoyed reading of your travels so far, though why are there only two food pictures posted? I know you generally take pictures and then post the pics of your marvelous meals. Hope that's not an indication of the food you've been eating. Looking forward to Italy? I'm not surprised you ran into Joe Namath, as you know Mark, Maureen too saw him at the Eiffel Tower many years ago -- might I mention to other readers though that she was the only one in our group of 6 who saw him, even with the binnoculars she insisted we view through! So, Joe Namath has way too much time on his hands, he needs to get a job. Sounds like he's a bit of a loaner with not much of an imagination as he seems to gravitate back to the Eiffel Tower there.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got some sleep on the flight from Boston over there, you needed it to deal with the strikes, crowded trains, and hotel personnel. Hopefully, it's all uphill for you from now on. Looks like you have a wine tour booked for tomorrow, I'm sure you'll enjoy that. We'll look forward to reading a post from Judy if she's not too drunj after that.
Speaking of Judy, did you ask for a refund of your mileage upgrade since you didn't get a sundae and Mark didn't get "a peanut"?
I'm happy to be able to follow your travels without having to deal with long flights. Enjoy your next couple of days of touring, and I'll make sure to post again -- if this one goes through before I loose it again.
Gotta go eat lunch now, I'm frying up Irish bangers, scrambled eggs and toast and they're beginning to smell ready.
Enjoy -- please keep writing and posting pictures -- I love following you.
Hopefully Annie's bangers, scrambled eggs and toast didn't smell before she cooked them too.
ReplyDeleteYou are funny Sheila!
