After a long day without very much sleep, we both slept like logs after hitting the pillow at the hotel. It’s not easy to get a really good sleep when you’re in a sitting-up position, which is what we tried to do the night before on the flight coming in. So, we really needed that!
Judy wanted to go to the health club and run some errands (buy stuff for Ryan’s apartment) in the morning, so Ryan & I went to an early morning movie…..Jackass 3D. Definitely not Oscar material, but if you enjoy a bunch of guys trying to out dumbass each other, then this is the film for you. Not for the weak of constitution, for sure, but you really haven’t experienced much until you’ve seen a guy play Pin The Tail On the Donkey on a real donkey and see him get kicked in the groin in 3D.
We met up with Judy and headed over to the Beacon Hill Bistro for brunch. After the obligatory picture under the Cheers Bar sign, we walked around the Boston Commons and picked up the Green line out towards Fenway Park .
I have a good friend in Boston , Bernie Kaplan, who is always telling me that I should come out here and watch some October baseball. So, we dutifully went out to Fenway Park and, lo and behold, it was a ghost town out there. I guess $175M in payroll doesn’t go as far as it used to. In any case, it was just more evidence that Bernie is sadly misinformed and living in a state of denial. Perhaps I should invite him to SF…….at least they play real baseball, and playoff caliber too, and not this DH malarkey.
Ryan, Judy & I salvaged that wasted trip by stopping in the Game On! sports bar and having a drink while catching up on a little NFL football. After a short time, we were back on the Green Line towards Ryan’s apartment to pick up our bags and head out to the airport for our flight to
Upon checking in for our flight, the miles upgrade thing really turned around for us. The person at the check-in stand invited us to wait in the Admirals Club for our flight. It had a nice lounge area with comfortable seats, free refreshments, free WI-FI, etc. We’re thinking……..OK, now this is a little more like it. We boarded our plane and immediately were served complimentary champagne & juice. Soon after came the hot towels and the menu for dinner service. Complimentary cocktails followed…..we both had a Canadian Club & 7up……and then dinner service. The coup de grace was the dessert…………the hot fudge sundae, much to Judy’s delight.
As I am sitting here typing this, Judy has stretched out her seat and is lying down trying to catch some shuteye. I guess it is time for me to do the same as we have about another 3 ½ hours till we land in Paris .
